Huge chunk of ice breaks off Greenland glacier

As written by Liz Goodwin from the Lookout

A block of ice four times the size of Manhattan has split off from a Greenland glacier and melted--an event so dramatic that it's shocked the scientists who study the area.
Alun Hubbard of Aberystwyth University, Wales, said he was rendered "speechless" when he saw the now much smaller Petermann glacier. The break happened in 2010, but this is the first time photos have been available.
"Although I knew what to expect in terms of ice loss from satellite imagery, I was still completely unprepared for the gob-smacking scale of the breakup, which rendered me speechless," Hubbard said in a statement. The scientist said no similar event has happened in Greenland since recorded observations began in 1876.
Scientists now worry that another block of ice--about two times the size of Manhattan--is preparing to break off, according to the New York Times.
Ohio State University Professor Alan Box, who also studies the Petermann glacier, told the Times that observers do not know whether the region's rising water and air temperatures contributed to the deterioration of the ice. Researchers they don't have data that goes far back enough in time to document the water temperature beneath the ice.
Greenland's ice sheet may be melting at the rate of 400 billion tons per year. According to MSNBC, Greenland has lost "592.6 square miles of ice between 2000 and 2010."

JoJo is back!

After years and months of setbacks, especially with her record label or former record label, JoJo is finally getting ready to release her third studio album entitled “Jumping Trains” in October! The 20-year-old singer-songwriter premiered the first official single “Disaster” yesterday. The pop-rock tune is reminiscent of her past hit, “Too Little Too Late,” but is more like an older sophisticated version; you can tell she has grown in her vocal ability and in her music because she proves how powerful her vocal in the song is and you should here it currently playing on radio. There have also been other leaks of music from JoJo such as “Limbo” (one of my personal favorites) and a cover of Drake’s “Marvin’s Room”. We are pulling for her! Listen to tracks below:

Beyonce's new single is......

...'Party' (featuring Andre 3000) produced by Kanye West and starts playing on Urban radio August 30th. Even though her '4' did not do that well compared to 2009's 'I Am...Sasha Fierce' one must not count the 29yr old Ms. B out. She may have a few tricks up her sleave yet to keep listeners interested in her new album with the forthcoming video for 'Party' and rumored videos 'End of Time' and 'Countdown'. No official word on when the video for 'Party' will be released.

Toyota debuts new Camry amid tough competition

Toyota unveiled its first redesign of the Camry in five years. While it promises new technology and other upgrades, America's best-selling car faces a fight to stay on top.The Camry will carry an entertainment system called Entune, see pic below, which lets drivers connect to mobile applications such as Pandora.

Toyota introduced the Camry in the U.S. in 1983 to compete with the Honda Accord. It quickly became a big seller because of its reputation for reliability and good gas mileage. It has been the best-selling car in America ever since, except for 2001, when it was outsold by the Honda Accord. But the car's sales fell 8 percent that year, while sales of the Hyundai Sonata rose 64 percent. According to Jesse Toprak, vice president of industry trends and insights for car pricing site TrueCar.com, the new Camry will satisfy current owners who want to trade in their cars. But he also said it would have a tough time attracting new younger buyers because of the design being so bland to other designer models.

AMY WINEHOUSE STILL BREAKING MUSIC RECORDS AFTER DEATH

It seems that death now a days has a profound effect on the careers left behind by celebrities. It seems that Amy Winhouse's "Back to black" album is still breaking records in the UK Just check out this Article we found online from Associated Press in London:

"LONDON (AP) — Amy Winehouse is still hitting music milestones after her untimely death last month.
Britain's Official Charts Company says Winehouse's Grammy-award winning "Back to Black" has become the best-selling album in the U.K. in the 21st century.
The company, which tracks music sales in the U.K., said Wednesday that "Back to Black" overtook James Blunt's 2005 debut album to claim the title this week."

Also if you didn't know!

"Winehouse's second album had jumped to the No. 1 spot on the charts shortly after the soul singer was found dead in her London town house on July 23. An initial post-mortem failed to determine cause of death, and Winehouse's family said Tuesday that toxicology tests showed she had no illegal drugs in her system when she died.
An inquest into Winehouse's death begins in October."

In the meantime it seems that no-one had to "Take her to Rehab" Cause she said No No No herself!

5.8 earthquake in Virginia felt in Washington, New York City, North Carolina

a 5.8 Earthquake hit Virginia Just minutes ago at around 2pm. Not only was the earthquake more then felt in Virginia but Washington, NYC, North Carolina and even Some parts of Maryland.

Reports are still rolling in as we speak.

If you are in an area that is affected REMEMBER that after an Earthquake comes the AfterShocks so please readers don't let your guards down just yet!

Be careful  & checkout these useful tips

MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THESE STEPS RIGHT AFTER EARTHQUAKE:

  • Check yourself for injuries. Often people tend to others without checking their own injuries. You will be better able to care for others if you are not injured or if you have received first aid for your injuries.
  • Protect yourself from further danger by putting on long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy shoes, and work gloves. This will protect your from further injury by broken objects.
  • After you have taken care of yourself, help injured or trapped persons. If you have it in your area, call 9-1-1, then give first aid when appropriate. Don't try to move seriously injured people unless they are in immediate danger of further injury.
  • Look for and extinguish small fires. Eliminate fire hazards. Putting out small fires quickly, using available resources, will prevent them from spreading. Fire is the most common hazard following earthquakes. Fires followed the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 for three days, creating more damage than the earthquake.
  • Leave the gas on at the main valve, unless you smell gas or think it's leaking. It may be weeks or months before professionals can turn gas back on using the correct procedures. Explosions have caused injury and death when homeowners have improperly turned their gas back on by themselves.
  • Clean up spilled medicines, bleaches, gasoline, or other flammable liquids immediately. Avoid the hazard of a chemical emergency.
  • Open closet and cabinet doors cautiously. Contents may have shifted during the shaking of an earthquake and could fall, creating further damage or injury.
  • Inspect your home for damage. Get everyone out if your home is unsafe. Aftershocks following earthquakes can cause further damage to unstable buildings. If your home has experienced damage, get out before aftershocks happen.
  • Help neighbors who may require special assistance. Elderly people and people with disabilities may require additional assistance. People who care for them or who have large families may need additional assistance in emergency situations.
  • Listen to a portable, battery-operated radio (or television) for updated emergency information and instructions. If the electricity is out, this may be your main source of information. Local radio and local officials provide the most appropriate advice for your particular situation.
  • Expect aftershocks. Each time you feel one, drop, cover, and hold on! Aftershocks frequently occur minutes, days, weeks, and even months following an earthquake.
  • Watch out for fallen power lines or broken gas lines, and stay out of damaged areas. Hazards caused by earthquakes are often difficult to see, and you could be easily injured.
  • Stay out of damaged buildings. If you are away from home, return only when authorities say it is safe. Damaged buildings may be destroyed by aftershocks following the main quake.
  • Use battery-powered lanterns or flashlights to inspect your home. Kerosene lanterns, torches, candles, and matches may tip over or ignite flammables inside.
  • Inspect the entire length of chimneys carefully for damage. Unnoticed damage could lead to fire or injury from falling debris during an aftershock. Cracks in chimneys can be the cause of a fire years later.
  • Take pictures of the damage, both to the house and its contents, for insurance claims.
  • Avoid smoking inside buildings. Smoking in confined areas can cause fires.
  • When entering buildings, use extreme caution. Building damage may have occurred where you least expect it. Carefully watch every step you take.
    • Examine walls, floor, doors, staircases, and windows to make sure that the building is not in danger of collapsing.
    • Check for gas leaks. If you smell gas or hear a blowing or hissing noise, open a window and quickly leave the building. Turn off the gas, using the outside main valve if you can, and call the gas company from a neighbor's home. If you turn off the gas for any reason, it must be turned back on by a professional.
    • Look for electrical system damage. If you see sparks or broken or frayed wires, or if you smell burning insulation, turn off the electricity at the main fuse box or circuit breaker. If you have to step in water to get to the fuse box or circuit breaker, call an electrician first for advice.
    • Check for sewage and water line damage. If you suspect sewage lines are damaged, avoid using the toilets and call a plumber. If water pipes are damaged, contact the water company and avoid using water from the tap. You can obtain safe water from undamaged water heaters or by melting ice cubes.
    • Watch for loose plaster, drywall, and ceilings that could fall.
  • Use the telephone only to report life-threatening emergencies. Telephone lines are frequently overwhelmed in disaster situations. They need to be clear for emergency calls to get through.
  • Watch animals closely. Leash dogs and place them in a fenced yard. The behavior of pets may change dramatically after an earthquake. Normally quiet and friendly cats and dogs may become aggressive or defensive

MAY GOD BE WITH YOU !
