In the mood for a movie check out these new releases on DVD and Blu Ray

For the week August 16th

Jane Eyre
When orphaned governess Jane Eyre arrives at impressive Thornfield Hall she’s intrigued by her dark wealthy employer Rochester. His moods and the strange occurrences in the house lead her to discover a terrible secret that he had hoped to hide from her forever. I saw this movie and gave it a B- the acting is good but it is slow moving so hopefully you have some patience to enjoy its simplicity.

The Conspirator
In the wake of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, seven men and one woman are arrested and charged with conspiring to kill the President, Vice President, and Secretary of State. The lone woman charged, Mary Surratt owns a boarding house where John Wilkes and others met and planned the simultaneous attacks. Against the gloomy backdrop of post-Civil War Washington, newly-appointed lawyer Frederick Aiken a Union war hero, reluctantly agrees to defend Surratt before a military tribunal. Aiken realizes his client may be innocent and that she is being used as bait to capture the only conspirator to have escaped a massive manhunt, her own son, John As the nation turns against her, Surratt is forced to rely on Aiken to uncover the truth and save her life. This movie is filled with drama that builds to the final scene and tells a powerful story about America then and now. Grade A-

Something Borrowed
Rachel is a generous and loyal pal to her engaged best friend Darcy. But after celebrating her 30th birthday, good girl Rachel unexpectedly ends up in the arms of hottie Dex, the guy she’s had a crush on since law school…and who happens to be Darcy’s fiancé. In the crazy weeks leading up to Darcy’s wedding, Rachel finds herself caught between her long-time friendship with Darcy and the prospect of losing the love of her life. This movie blends comedy with very touching moments as Rachel’s constant confidante guy friend, Ethan, who busily evades the affection of one of Darcy’s lovestruck friends while harboring a secret crush of his own. If you are in the mood for something light and fun to watch with a girlfriend then this movie is for you. Grade A

Priest
Priest, is a mash-up of sci-fi, horror, and various Westerns adapted from a graphic In Hyung's world, the main character, the future is a nightmare still reeling from centuries of conflict between humans and vast armies of slimy vampires; having been saved by fierce and noble warrior priests, people now live in a great, grim city while the remaining vampires have been transferred to the desert. The fun starts when a gang of vamps attacks one family, abducting pretty young Lucy and killing her parents. The girl's sharpshooting boyfriend a retired Priest, who's only too willing to defy the dire warnings of the arrogant clergymen who control the cities, jump on his supercycle, and head out to do battle with a foe that, far from being defeated, has been regrouping and now plans annihilate all mankind. Even though I did now see this movie it is definitely one that will be on my watch list this weekend and if you love the latest vampire craze it might be in yours as well. Grade (unavailable)

Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil
This movie is the sequel to 2006’s Hoodwinked. The sequel finds our heroine, training with a mysterious covert group called the Sisters of the Hood. But Red is forced to cut her training short when she gets an urgent call from Nicky Flippers, the head of the super secret Happily Ever After Agency, aka the HEA. A wicked witch has abducted two innocent children, Hansel and Gretel and Red’s Granny. Nicky needs the whole Hoodwinked gang which includes Red, Wolf and Twitchy for the search and rescue mission. This movie was not as entertaining as the first Hoodwinked and the jokes sometimes fall flat especially for a younger viewing audience. Still if you want to pass 87mins away by all mean be my guest. Grade C+
